Independent Martial Arts (IMA) was founded by Mr Kevin Summers 6th Dan & Mr Graham Lambert 4th Dan in 2006. The aim of Independent Martial Arts is to provide a service to ITF and WTF Tae Kwon-Do practitioners and martial arts instructors in the UK that unifies and represents itself to the highest possible standards.
With their wealth of experience, Mr Summers and Mr Lambert are able to deliver training in Tae Kwon Do utilising innovative, modern and inspirational methods. This is important today to ensure the continued well-being of the art which the IMA is determined to revive and teach in the form originally devised by General Choi before it sadly began to be diluted and eroded over recent years.
Whilst Mr Summers and Mr Lambert themselves are ITF based, the IMA also covers the WTF (or "Olympic") style and so it is able to go some way towards reuniting the art of Tae Kwon Do. Students grade through either ITF or WTF syllabi but students are free to train with any of the IMA member clubs and senior students (1st dan and above) are encouraged to learn both system's patterns.
IMA is an organisation with a desire for knowledge. While it holds to the core principles of Tae Kwon Do it is not closed to learning from other martial arts to supplement its own wealth of experience.
Helping the IMA along this path is the internationally renowned Master Willie Lim who is a great inspiration to us all in making us re-examine our art and to see it in its true form.
IMA are most grateful to Master Lim for imparting his vast knowledge and contributing so greatly in the role of President and Chief Examiner of IMA.
